It is simple to use: car2go in 5 easy steps.

  1. Sign Up
    Pick-up the car at a moment's notice or reserve in advance via internet or telephone.
  2. Get a Car & Get In
    Hundreds of car2gos are scattered all around downtown - a fleet of modern, clean vehicles fueled and ready to go, available to members spontaneously or with a reservation. As soon as you hold the car2go member card up to the card reader on the windshield, the vehicle opens.
  3. Enter your PIN
    Get in the car and then enter your PIN.
  4. Drive Off
    Drive where you want, as long as you want.
  5. Park
    Then just park and leave it for the next driver.

What is car2go?
Unlike traditional carsharing programs, car2go is not station-based. A fleet of 200 car2gos is located throughout the greater downtown Austin area and can be accessed "on-demand". The members may use the vehicle for as long as they like, without committing to a specific return time. The driver can finish the rental in any available public parking space within the business area or at one of the specially marked car2go spaces. Charges are based on minutes used and include fuel, insurance, maintenance and parking.

Rates.

A simple and fair price structure allows members to pay for ONLY what they use. This simple price structure includes the costs of fuel, insurance, parking, maintenance, and mileage. An easy $35 plus tax registration fee gets you started. There's no security deposit, monthly fees, or reservation costs.

Per mile after 150 mile per rental $0.45 plus tax
  1. subject to 10% state rental tax and 5% city rental tax if rental started inside the City of Austin (The City of Austin requires that an additional tax of 5 percent be imposed on each motor vehicle rental for the purpose of financing the Town Lake Park Community Events Center Venue Project.
